1988 - 1998 C1500 FAQ

Is this the same as an OBS Chevy lowering kit?
Yes! OBS Chevy or OBS GMC are commonly used to describe 1988-1998 C/K trucks. It stands for Old Body Style.  While all kits in this category are considered OBS kits, the category fitment should still be checked by year, model and drivetrain.
Why are some kits described as 5/7-8?
A 5/7-8 kit is a kit where the front is lowered 5 inches and the rear is lowered either 7" or 8".  The final drop amount depends on what holes are used when installing the lowering shackles.
Why do some kits list they fit 1.25" thick rotors?
On the 88-91 Std cab models they usually came with the light duty brake system. The thickness on those rotors was about 1" thick.  On all the other models they usually came with the heavy duty brake system where the rotors measured about 1.25" thick.  If the kit has coil springs only for the front, it will fit either 1" or 1.25" thick rotors. The rotor thickness only matters when it comes to kits that have drop spindles.
