About 99-06 Silverado/Sierra 1500 Lowering (NBS Chassis)

The 1999-2006 Silverado/Sierra 1500 is part of GM's GMT800 platform, often called the New Body Style or NBS truck. Most 1500 2WD trucks use independent front suspension with separate coil springs and shocks, which makes lowering straightforward with drop spindles, drop coils, or drop control arms depending on the amount of drop you want.

Two important notes:
1. The 2007 model year had a leftover production run called the 2007 Silverado 1500 Classic Body or 2007 Sierra 1500 Classic Body. If your 2007 is the Classic Body 1500 2WD, it uses the same NBS-style fitment as the 1999-2006 trucks on this page.
2. Some GM trucks from this generation use torsion-bar front suspension even when they are 2WD. If your truck has torsion bars, do not use coil-spring 2WD lowering parts. Use the torsion-bar/4WD-style lowering kits instead.

If you have a 4WD or torsion-bar Silverado/Sierra of this era, see our 99-06 Silverado/Sierra 1500 4WD Lowering Kits page. The parts are different from the coil-spring 2WD kits on this page.

Common 99-06 Silverado Drop Combos

Drop Front Rear Notes
1/2 or 2/2 Drop coils (1-2") Drop shackles (1-2") Mild stance. Drop shocks recommended if existing shocks are worn or travel is limited.
1/3 or 2/3 Drop coils (1-2") Hanger/shackle combo Mild-to-moderate rear drop. Alignment recommended after front lowering.
2/3 or 2/4 Drop spindles (2") Hanger/shackle combo (2-4") Most popular street drop. Keeps front ride quality close to stock.
3/5 Drop spindles + 1" drop coils Flip kit + lift shackle Aggressive street drop. Alignment parts and rear drop shocks recommended.
4/6 Drop control arms (4") Flip kit Deep static drop. Requires alignment correction, rear drop shocks, and a C-notch.
5/7-8 Drop spindles + 3" drop coils Flip kit + drop shackles Slammed stance. Requires C-notch, drop shocks, and careful alignment setup.

Front Lowering Options (1" to 5")

  • Drop Coils (1", 2", 3") - A budget-friendly way to lower the front. V6 and V8 trucks have different front-end weight, so use the correct engine-specific coil. Alignment arms are recommended when using 2" or 3" drop coils.
  • Drop Spindles (2") - Bolt-in 2" front drop with excellent ride quality because the spring rate stays unchanged. Works with stock control arms on coil-spring 2WD trucks.
  • Drop Control Arms (4") - Tubular drop arms lower the truck while helping maintain proper front-end geometry when matched correctly. We offer upper/lower sets and lowers-only options. Lowers-only setups require matching upper alignment arms for proper camber correction.
  • Coil Relocators (1" to 3") - Adjustable in half-inch increments. Useful for fine-tuning front height when paired with drop spindles or when working with existing aftermarket coils.

Rear Lowering Options (1" to 8")

  • Drop Shackles (1-2") - The simplest rear drop. Bolt-in design with no rear alignment required.
  • Drop Hangers (1-2") - Moves the front leaf-spring mount for additional rear drop. Usually more labor than shackles because factory hanger hardware or rivets may need to be removed.
  • Adjustable Hanger/Shackle Combo Kit (2-4") - Front hanger plus rear shackle in one kit, with adjustable rear drop for common street setups.
  • Flip Kit (5", 6", 7-8") - Relocates the leaf spring above the axle and includes new U-bolts. Essential for deeper rear drops.
  • Flip + Lift Shackle Combo (4-5") - Flip kit with an offsetting lift shackle to fine-tune rear drop without buying separate pieces.
  • Carrier Bearing Spacer - Usually required on 2-piece driveshaft trucks when running a flip kit.

Required & Recommended Add-ons

  • Drop Shocks - Recommended for most 2"+ drops and required on deeper drops where shock travel is reduced. We carry vehicle-specific drop shocks and common front/rear shock bundle SKUs.
  • Alignment Kit - A final alignment is required after any front lowering. Camber/caster hardware or upper alignment arms may be needed depending on the setup.
  • C-Notch Kit - Bolt-on or weld-in. Required for most 5"+ rear drops to provide axle-to-frame clearance.
  • Upper Alignment Arms - Strongly recommended with 2"+ drop coils, lowers-only drop control arms, or coil relocators to help correct camber and ball-joint angle.
  • Bump Stops (Pancake or Cut-to-Fit) - Cushions the axle or suspension at full compression. Recommended for any lowered truck and especially important on 4"+ rear drops.
  • Shock Extenders - Relocate the rear shock mount and can be used on some setups instead of rear drop shocks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Will a 99-06 Silverado kit fit my 2007 Silverado?
A: Yes, but only if your 2007 is the Classic Body 1500 2WD version. The 2007+ new body style Silverado/Sierra uses a different chassis and needs our 07-13 Silverado/Sierra 1500 2WD Lowering Kits.
Q: Do these kits fit GMC Sierra too?
A: Yes. The 1999-2006 Sierra 1500 2WD shares the same NBS chassis as the Silverado 1500 2WD. Parts on this page fit both Chevy and GMC 1500 2WD trucks when the suspension type matches.
Q: Can I run drop coils with drop spindles?
A: Yes. A common 5" front drop uses 2" drop spindles with 3" drop coils. Use the correct V6 or V8 coil, plan for alignment correction, and verify shock travel and tire clearance.
Q: Will lowering void my warranty?
A: Aftermarket suspension can affect warranty coverage on related drivetrain, steering, or suspension components. Read our Does a Lift Kit Void Your Warranty? guide for more detail on how warranty decisions are typically handled.
Q: Do I need a C-notch?
A: For most rear drops of 5" or more, yes. For 3-4" rear drops, a C-notch may not be required, but axle clearance, bump-stop height, tire size, and ride quality should still be checked.
Q: What shocks do I need?
A: For mild 1-2" drops, shocks depend on condition and available travel. For 3"+ front drops or 4"+ rear drops, use drop shocks, extended-travel shocks, or shock extenders matched to the kit.
Q: Can I install this myself?
A: Many 1-3" drops can be installed by an experienced DIYer with proper tools, jack stands, torque specs, and a service manual. Deeper drops, flip kits, C-notches, and alignment-sensitive setups are often better handled by a professional shop.
